tempt
Tempting is like when you see a cookie jar on the kitchen counter, and even though you know you shouldn’t have any because dinner is soon, you really want to reach in and take one. The cookie jar is calling to you, making you think about how yummy the cookies would taste. This is what it feels like to be tempted.
Imagine you’re playing with your favorite toy, and your friend has a shiny new toy. Even though you love your toy, the shiny one looks really fun, and you feel like you want to play with it too. That feeling is temptation, the urge to do something even if you know you shouldn’t or you have something else to do.
Think of temptation as a little voice in your head saying, “Wouldn’t it be fun to do this?” even if you know you should be doing something else like homework or chores. It’s like when you know you should be eating your vegetables, but the ice cream in the freezer seems much more exciting. Temptation is about wanting something that might not be the best choice.
