layer
Think about a cake. When you cut a cake, you see that it has different layers. Each layer is a part of the cake, and they all come together to make it taste really good. A layer is like a sheet or a part of something that is put on top of or under another part. Just like how a cake might have a layer of chocolate, a layer of cream, and a layer of sponge, things in the world can have layers too.
Consider a book. When you read a book, you turn the pages one by one. Each page is a layer of the book. You need all the pages to read the whole story. Layers help us organize things so we can understand them better, just like how pages in a book help you follow the story.
Think of an onion. When you peel an onion, you take off one layer at a time. Each layer is thin and covers the layer beneath it. This is how we can think about layers in many things; they cover and protect what’s inside, just like how an onion’s layers keep it fresh.
