hypothesis
A hypothesis is like a special kind of guess. Imagine you’re a detective trying to solve a mystery. You have some clues, but you don’t know exactly what happened. You make a guess about what might have happened, and that’s your hypothesis. It’s like saying, ‘I think the cat knocked over the lamp because I see paw prints nearby.’ You need to check if your guess is right by looking for more clues.
Another way to think about a hypothesis is like when you’re trying to figure out if a toy will float or sink in the bathtub. Before you put it in the water, you make a guess, ‘I think this toy will float!’ That’s your hypothesis. Then you test it by putting the toy in the water to see if you were right.
A hypothesis is also like a superhero’s plan. Before a superhero goes to stop the villain, they make a plan based on what they know. They think, ‘If I do this, then I can stop the villain.’ That’s their hypothesis. They try it out to see if it works. If it doesn’t, they make a new plan and try again.
