A desert is like a giant sandbox where the sand stretches for miles and miles. It’s a place where the sun shines really bright, and there are very few clouds in the sky. In a desert, you might find cacti, which are special plants that can store water inside them, just like a sponge holds water. The desert is so dry because it doesn’t rain much, so there’s not a lot of water for plants and animals.
Imagine a beach without the ocean. The sand is hot, and you can feel the heat on your feet. The wind sometimes blows the sand around, making little hills called dunes. Some animals, like camels and lizards, love living in the desert because they are really good at finding water and staying cool.
A desert can also be like a treasure hunt because there are hidden surprises if you look closely. You might see a beautiful flower blooming after a rare rain or a tiny animal hiding under a rock. Even though it’s hot and dry, the desert is full of interesting things waiting to be discovered.
