average
When you have a group of things and you want to find out what is the ‘middle’ or ‘usual’ amount, you use something called the average. Imagine you have a basket of apples and you want to share them with your friends. First, you count all the apples. Let’s say you have 10 apples. Then, you count how many friends you have, including yourself. If there are 5 of you, you divide the apples equally among everyone. Each person gets 2 apples. This is the average number of apples each person gets.
Think of it like a balancing scale. If you have different numbers on each side, you add them up and then spread them out evenly to make both sides balance. The number that makes everything even is the average.
Another way to think of it is like pouring juice into cups. You pour all the juice into a big jug, then pour it equally into the cups, so everyone gets the same amount of juice. The amount in each cup is the average.
