Mars is like a big, red ball in the sky. It’s called the Red Planet because it looks like it’s covered in rust, just like an old bicycle left out in the rain. Mars is a neighbor to Earth, but it’s much colder and has a very thin atmosphere, which means it doesn’t have much air to breathe. Imagine Mars as a giant desert with lots of red sand and big hills called mountains. Some of these mountains are even taller than the ones here on Earth!
Mars also has two tiny moons that are like little potatoes flying around it. These moons are named Phobos and Deimos. They are much smaller than our Moon and have funny shapes.
Scientists are very curious about Mars because they want to know if there was ever any life there. They send special robots called rovers to explore the surface of Mars. These rovers are like robot cars that take pictures and study the rocks and soil to help us learn more about this fascinating planet.
